Cookie Policy

The actual list

We promised you a short cookie list in our Privacy Policy. Here it is:

Cookie Purpose Duration
_ga Google Analytics. Tells one visit from another so we can count them. Only set while analytics is on 2 years
_ga_ZV65XCVE92 Google Analytics. Keeps track of your current visit. Only set while analytics is on 2 years
_gcl_au Google Ads. Lets us show TG ads to people who've visited when we run a campaign, and see whether an ad led to a visit. Only set while ads are on 90 days
__cf_bm Cloudflare bot management. Helps distinguish humans from bots 30 minutes

We also keep three small notes in your browser's own storage. They aren't cookies and never leave your device: your cookie choices (tg-analytics, 12 months), your light or dark mode (theme), and which privacy rules apply where you are (tg-region, until you close the tab).

While ads are on, Google may also set its own advertising cookies on Google's domains (such as doubleclick.net). Those are covered by Google's cookie policy, linked below. We don't use any other ad networks, and we never sell your data.

Google Analytics, Google Ads, and where you are

We use Google Analytics to see which pages are useful, so we can make the site better. We also use Google Ads cookies so that, when we occasionally run a campaign, we can show TG ads to people who've visited the site, on Google and the sites it works with. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics too, which uses no cookies and can't identify you.

  • In the EU, EEA or Switzerland: analytics and ads stay off unless you choose "Allow".
  • In the UK: analytics is on, as UK law allows for measuring how a site is used. Ads only switch on if you choose "Sounds good". We tell you on your first visit and you can turn both off with one click.
  • Everywhere else: analytics and ads are on. You can turn either off anytime, and we respect your browser's Global Privacy Control signal as a "no" to both.

What cookies actually are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. They help websites remember things, like whether you've visited before or what settings you prefer. They're not inherently evil, despite what some breathless articles would have you believe.

Managing your preferences

Change your mind anytime: Cookie settings, at the bottom of every page, has a switch for analytics and a switch for ads. Turning either off takes effect straight away and deletes the cookies we set for it. Ads need analytics, so turning analytics off turns ads off too. We also respect your browser's Global Privacy Control signal.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Every browser handles this differently, but you'll usually find the options under "Privacy" or "Security." Be aware that blocking all cookies may break some website functionality.

Third-party services

We use Cloudflare to host and protect this site. They may set cookies for security purposes (like the bot management cookie above). Cloudflare's own cookie policy explains their practices in detail. Google's cookie policy covers the Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies, and Google's ad settings let you control the ads Google shows you.
